A rider promising Italian Simoncelli advanced last year, the series of high-level MotoGP, after a name for yourself in the power classes. He was a force to reckon with the Italian Minimoto Championship in the late 90's, won the European championship (as well as several World Cup races) in the 125cc class for Aprilia and took the 250cc World Championship for Gilera in 2008. He became the MotoGP series last season, riding for Team Honda Gresini, where he took second place last week in Australia.
Disaster, but in the second round of the Malaysian Grand Prix today, when he lost control of his Honda motorcycle and was hit by other riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi, as he slid across the track. He was there, motionless, with his helmet in the incident until an ambulance took him to the hospital track, where he was later pronounced dead. He was 24 years old
